TRINA invites you to a release party for her new album at Cosmopolite with some of Oslo’s most compelling musicians Oddrun Lilja Jonsdottir, Håkon Norby Bjørgo, Solo Diarra, Isak Austnes Brekken, and Nick Hatch. Multi-instrumentalist, composer, improviser Trina Coleman made her Norwegian national debut on The Voice 2019 with her memorable 4-chair turning rendition of Ain’t No Sunshine. Before moving to Oslo, her US band toured the east coast and opened for Grammy winner Cory Henry in Baltimore. With a vocal quality and expression described by Lene Marlin as “really rare and special,” Coleman draws upon her African American musical heritage and classical training to weave progressive soul jazz described as a sound “You don’t just hear… This is something you feel.”From pristine a cappella to soaring string arrangements and gritty band grooves, her soul-bearing songwriting has connected her with American and European audiences with memorable authenticity. Trina believes that music – particularly singing with one’s own voice – is an essential balm in a harsh world, and she invites each audience to create sound alongside her in that healing space. Recently, Trina created the well-received INTERMUNDIUM improvised concert series, composed/toured with Weary Blues: Poems of the Harlem Renaissance, and composed Not My Bones, a life-affirming 35-piece genre-bending work filmed at Oslo’s iconic Rainbow Studio and debuted live at Victoria Nasjonal Jazzscene.Trina will be joined by Oddrun Lilja Jonsdottir of LILJA, an innovative Norwegian-Icelandic jazz guitarist, vocalist, and composer celebrated for seamlessly blending modern jazz with diverse global folk music traditions. Upright bassist Håkon Norby Bjørgo has toured Europe and Japan with his own band and is an established jazz musician in Oslo. Solo Diarra is a Burkinabe multi-instrumentalist, storyteller, and hereditary griot who blends traditional West African rhythms with modern afrobeat, jazz, soul, and has collaborated with bands such as Karpe. Skilled young Trondheim pianist/composer Isak Austnes Brekken plays a central role in Oslo’s active jazz scene. Australian-born Nick Hatch is a sought-after drummer, music producer, and music director who tours and records with Nico & Vinz and Admiral P.Photo: V.Josefsen, S.Beasley, J.Haga, T.E. Leirtrø, A.
